Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, and we hold every site we build for clients to the same standard.

How this site is built

  • Semantic HTML with one heading structure, labelled regions and a skip link to the main content.
  • Every control works with a keyboard and shows a visible focus ring.
  • Text meets AA contrast, including text over photographs, which we measure against the real pixels behind it.
  • Every photograph has a text description.
  • Moving content can be paused: the opening slideshow and the film strip each have a pause button.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns its animations off.
  • The layout reflows down to 320 pixels wide and supports 200% zoom without losing content.

How we test

Before each release we run two independent automated engines (axe-core and IBM Equal Access) on phone and desktop sizes, measure contrast over images by hand, and check the page with a keyboard only. Automated tools catch only part of what matters, so we treat them as a floor, not a finish line.

Known limitations

  • The contact-sheet section is animated by scrolling. The words and photos in it are always present for screen readers, and the animation is off when reduced motion is set.
